Timeline
Trigger TermsThe Monroe DoctrineMonroe claims that in the interest of the U.S. that no free people in the Americas will be subject to further colonization by the European powers. Although the U.S. respects their European origins and are concerned with the liberty of European people, the U.S. does not wish to be involved with wars fought among Europeans. It is far more connected to the affairs going on in its own hemisphere. Only when the rights of Americans are infringed upon will the U.S. prepare for war. Any attempt by a European nation to extend their power to the western hemisphere will be considered a threat to American peace and security, but the U.S. will not interfere with any preexisting colonies. Extending power without being seen as a threat is impossible. Attempts to suppress other independent governments in the western hemisphere will be seen as a creation of a poor disposition towards the U.S. This is significant because it creates the predisposition towards isolationism when it comes to foreign policy. This would not change until the U.S. entered the Great War almost a century later. Monroe firmly lays out that America will not mess around.

The Treaty of GhentThe treaty of Ghent was the treaty that ended the war of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. However, the news of the signing of the treaty got around very slowly. Because of the news traveling so slow, there was another battle known as The Battle of New Orleans. What the treaty did for the United States was made them more influential as a foreign power. Also Great Britain relinquished the Northwest territory and in return both countries came to the agreement to end slave trade.

Constitution
The establishment of the constitution domesticated the disrupted government and its colonies shortly after the Revolutionary War. An idea, which was a first of many, to form a union to connect all colonies, was presented and accepted by many in hopes of creating a newer and better form of government. A government, acting as holder of power, sole purpose was to serve and protect its people only to enforce such reasonable laws and acts if voted upon, having most of the power belong to the people still. However, the biggest significance of this document was now legally, the natural rights of people were being protected upon, in hopes of not forming a government with such tyrannical ways such as the Crown of England. Article 1, being the legislative branch enforces the importance of the common folk being represented in government still having their voices and opinions voiced by both senate and a representative. Article 2, consisting of the executive branch, illustrates the goals and ideas a president must have in order to rule for their people in the most preferred way. it also shows the limitation of powers the constitution has. Lastly, article 3 shows that the laws of each individual and laws of the government are to be protected and enforced at all costs with the establishment of the judicial branch.
